In this class, we've learned much about how technology is incorporated into teaching in the "21st Century Classroom." From Microsoft Office to Digital Imaging, there are many ways that modern advances can be used in education. When I think of the combination of teaching and technology, my mind immediately goes to science. Virtual field trips, experiments that can't be completed in class, and online, interactive homework are ways in which this technology (specifically the Internet) could be used in a science class. In music classes, iPods could be used to download small lessons that students could listen to at any time. What about classes like English? It seems to me like these advances in education are primarly geared towards science and math classes, and more traditional methods of teaching will still reign in English and literature classes. Perhaps that's just the southern Wayne County in me being old-fashioned.

English might not be going digital but it is getting more in depth, elementary students are learning about the literary elements, like authors style, that is something i don't remember learning when i was that young

I guess it is more difficult to teach English with new methods but I'm sure they'll find effective ways as time goes on.

i think that lit classes will expand to use more and more of the modern written work, such as blogs.

Maybe there will start to be more advances made towards English- usuing 21st Century Technolgy. But overall, with it going on in other subjects, the kids will just mold to that way of learning.

I think English classes can use technology to create projects. Also the curriculum can be based more on critical thinking than answering questions straight from reading.

I am also interested in how this technology and these new methods will apply to high school, especially English. I think it definitely can be adapted, I am just interested as to how.

I kind of saw it more the other way in that it seems like there are more options for changing the curricula with technology for other subjects besides math, but I can see where you are coming from.

The more bookish classes are definitely a lot harder to wrap the new technology into. Though that's not to say that its impossible right now. There are ways to have books be more then just that. There are many true to book adaptations that you can find for a lot of the more famous books if you try hard enough. And if you can't find one fitting that, you can always find one of the books on tape to add more to it. At one point in Junior High we listened to Romeo and Juliet in my English class from a tape, rather then reading or watching a movie like we did every other year.
